Learning How to Love a Job You Hate
This is a problem that just about everyone experiences at some point in his or her life. It’s very unlikely that you will work jobs that you absolutely love for your entire life. In the end, the business hiring you is doing so because it is profitable for them to put you to work. The job at hand might not be the most fun, but you need to make the best of it. Learning how to love a job that you hate is not an easy task but if you put in good effort, you may just achieve your goal. If your job is truly unbearable, quitting might be on the table. However, doing your best to improve your job should always be an action that you take beforehand.
1 – Make friends and interact socially
Human beings are very social creatures. This is not an opinion, but a scientifically proven fact. By making friends and interacting with other employees at the business, you can drastically improve your perception about the job. You may start to turn a job that you hate into a job that you love, or at least find tolerable. Jobs occupy a large majority of our time, so why not make the best of it? By making friends, you’ll start to enjoy your day and maybe even share a laugh or smile with a few of your colleagues.
2 – If your boss is too difficult, develop a laid back approach
If you were to interview twenty people that hate their job, chances are that at least 75% of them, or 15 out of 20, would report some kind of disliking for their boss. If your boss is constantly challenging you and making work a pressure filled environment, then develop a laid back approach. You don’t have to stop caring about the business and its success, but you have to start ignoring the negative aspects of your boss. Most bosses are intolerable and power hungry, dealing with your boss in a laid back manner will be much more effective than stressing yourself out.
3 – Make your work environment comfortable
If you’re going to be spending a lot of time at your desk, you might want to customize the space and add some pictures of your friends or family. By making the environment more comfortable, you will start to feel more at home. Working a job can be intimidating and it causes a lot of anxiety. By personalizing your workspace, you will feel a lot better about yourself and your job.
4 – Develop a positive attitude – no matter what
Despite of what terrible activity your boss has you doing, it’s important to have a positive attitude. In every job, there are going to be tasks that you absolutely hate to do. If you think about a retail job, you’re very likely going to hate fetching carts from the parking lot and stocking shelves all day long. However, if you do your best to have a positive attitude, it will become easier for you. Who knows, you may even start to enjoy the activity and find a new perspective for your job.
5 – Know your superior’s expectations and exceed them
Nothing will make you feel worse than under delivering on something that was important to your boss. By knowing the expectations that he or she has for you, you can work hard to exceed them and do a good job. This will improve your confidence and it will make you feel good about yourself. It may even be what makes you eligible for a promotion and you’re probably well aware, working your way up into a management position is how you actually get a better job.
